Hotel and Restaurant staff scheduling

In this case we use Task Planner to create the roster for a hotel and a restaurant.

The story behind the example is a small hotel, consisting of 2 floors with 12 rooms each.

At the ground floor the restaurant, kitchen and reception are placed.

The following list describes the daily activities.

  • The reception is opened from 8 am to 12 pm.
  • Breakfast is offered between 8 am and 10 am.
  • Diner is offered between 6 pm and 10 pm.
  • Rooms are cleaned between 10 am and 3 pm.

To fulfill those activities the following staff is needed:

  • The reception needs two receptionists.
  • To serve the breakfast a roommate will do.
  • The kitchen needs a chef and an assistant working from 2 pm to 10 pm.
  • In the restaurant two servants are needed from 6 pm to 11 pm.
  • It takes about 20 to 25 minutes to clean a room, so we need a roommate pr floor.

The above gives rise to the Activity Schedule.

The task is to build a Work Schedule that will fulfill the needs of the Activity Schedule.

Planning Board for a hotel and restaurant.

In the activity schedule (the upper one) a blue bar represents an activity, to which a resource is assigned.

The initials of the resource is listed within or aside the bar.

The bars in the resource schedule (the lower one) represents duties. Blue duties are assigned an activity and gray duties are free.
