In this step we will create two projects using a template.
The first step is to create the template project. This is more or less done in the same way as creating projects directly in the activity schedule.
To create a template project follow this procedure:
- Select the menu 'Plan->Open Project Template...' and click the 'New' button.
- Fill in the fields 'Title' and 'Weeks' and click the 'OK' button.
- Select the newly created template and click the 'Open' button. This activates an empty 'template schedule'.
- Open the 'Work team' catalog by selecting the menu 'Catalogs->Work team'.
- Drag the needed work teams onto the 'template schedule' as you did when setting up the plan.
- Select the pen tool
from the toolbar and draw the activities in the schedule.
- Select the button
in the toolbar to set the schedule in 'Gantt mode' and draw the predecessor and successor relationships between the activities.
- Define a title for each activity.
- Store the template project.
The second step is to drag the template project onto the activity schedule. Select one of the activities (hereafter called the pivot), f.ex the last one, and drag it onto the schedule. You decide upon which work team's schedule you want to place the pivot. Multi-Project-Planner will place the others according to resource requirements and available space. If the template can not be dropped at the current location the mouse will have a forbidden sign.
The final step. When the template is dropped a new project is created. The name of the new project will be the name of the template and its color will be red.
The procedure is shown in this video:
