Outsource or not

Multi Project Planner lets you specify a work team as a sub contractor and a resource as an external resource. Using these facilities you can calculate the economic consequences of outsourcing.

Work Team as sub contractor.

A sub contractor does not participate in resource allocation, i.e. the resource allocation problem is moved to the sub contractor.

When calculating the costs of activities outsourced to a sub contractor, the sub contractor costs of the relevant competences are used. Should you forget to specify those costs, Multi Project Planner will remind you.

The effect is no allocation problem, but at a price.

Resource as an external resource (freelance)

If a resource is an external resource he is only paid if used.

When calculating the costs of external resource usage, the external costs of the relevant competences are used. Should you forget to specify those costs, Multi Project Planner will remind you.

The effect is no resource shortage, but at a price.

NB The automatic resource allocation routine will favour internal resources over external resources, thereby maximizing the utilization of internal resources.

How to

Set the sub contractor / external resource attributes from the popup menu associated with the work team and resource and immediately see the economic effects in the 'Financial Situation' views and the budget.
